At 5:55 p.m. on December 19, 2023, he gracefully departed from this world, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and a lifetime of impactful contributions. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara, Larry's journey was one marked by dedication, resilience, and a commitment to family.
Survived by his devoted children—Larry (Diane), Linda (Jim) Wenturine, Michael (Julie), Julie (William) Avarello-St. George—and a cherished array of grandchildren—Stephanie (Ryan), Peter, Stephen (Joann), Ashleigh (Sam), Alex (Shawna), Mark (Emma), Dan (Jenn), Doug (Brooke), Dana, Joseph, Natalie (Kevin), Dominic, Anthony (Megan), Andrew—Larry's impact reached through generations. The legacy extends further with 30 great-grandchildren and his sister, Immaculate Blaz, who joins the circle of those preserving his memory.
As a father, Larry's wisdom and mentorship touched countless lives. From the early morning drives in his tow truck, filled with stories of homespun wisdom, to the diverse ventures of auto mechanics, locksmithing, and rentals, Larry's journey was a tapestry woven with profound experiences and memories.
Fondly known as Uncle Larry, his life embodied the values of hard work and tenacity. Beginning as an auto mechanic and service station owner, he ventured into locksmithing and later established a successful trailer rental business. A testament to his enterprising spirit, Larry seamlessly integrated these ventures with a truck and car rental agency, solidifying his place as a multifaceted business owner.
Beyond the realm of business, Uncle Larry (Cuz as many others called him) was a devoted teacher and mentor, always willing to lend an ear and offer support. His welcoming demeanor extended beyond family, with many finding employment within his diverse business ventures during times of need.
Reflecting on the years gone by, we stand in awe of the countless individuals Larry assisted, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Siblings—Michael, Julie, Linda, and Larry—fondly remember the unwavering support of our mother, whom he married in 1955. We never lacked for anything; our parents provided a childhood of unparalleled richness. Despite facing financial challenges in their early years, countless hours were spent in travel with our mom and dad, camping and snowmobiling across the country. Larry and Barbara embarked on adventures around the world with trips and ocean cruises to various locations, creating unforgettable experiences with Amoco Oil Company, Hertz, U-Haul, Ryder, Budget, and Penske.
As we embark on the journey of mourning, we find solace in cherishing the memories of this remarkable man. In the future, additional details about the celebration of his life through funeral services will be shared. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 27, from 4 pm until 8 pm, at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, with a Leo XIII Knight of Columbus 3042 service at 7:00 p.m. The in-state visitation will commence at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 28, at Our Lady of Hope Church in St. Clair Shores, followed by a mass at 10:30 am.
