Kathy was born on March 28, 1942 to William and Virginia Carroll in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She went to school in Racine and graduated from St. Catherine’s Catholic High School. After high school Kathy worked at SC Johnson and it was while working there that she received a phone call asking for help from a guy she had met one time. That guy was Jim Saxton and on October 5, 2022 they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Kathy and Jim spent the beginning of their marriage in Racine where they had two children, Jim and Jennifer. In 1974 a job opportunity led them to Saint Clair Shores, Michigan and into many of our lives. It was in Saint Clair Shores that Kathy spent her adult life as an active wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and member of St Isaac Jogues parish. It was through St. Isaac Jogues that she met many friends with whom she remained close for the remainder of her life. Kathy also worked at various jobs over the years and only recently retired due to her illness.
Kathy did not like to remain idle and had many interests. She was an avid reader and loved to shop and go out to eat. She golfed for most of her adult life and continued to ride along after she wasn’t able to golf herself due to her arthritis. In addition to playing golf, she loved watching golf on television. Kathy also loved watching, and betting on, football including her beloved Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and especially loved drinking mudslides and playing Skip Bo by the pool in Florida. She loved ice cream and ate it almost every day in some form or another. She enjoyed afternoon tea and visited various tea houses around the Metro Detroit area. She even had her 80th birthday at her favorite tea house nearby. Kathy loved to dance and watching her and Jim on the dance floor was a sight to behold. She loved to play cards and was a part of many card groups over the years. Simply put she just loved being around others.
When she was able, she was up for anything. She would happily chair an entire fair with a random couple from church, be the first to hop in on a game of Flip Cup, sing Irish songs at Old Shillelagh, or drink a fishbowl at the Landshark at MSU.
Kathy is survived and missed by her loving husband Jim of 59 years; and her children Jim and Jennifer. She is forever remembered by her two grandchildren, Emily and Benjamin; along with her brothers Tom (Rose) Carroll and Dave (Patti) Carroll, her brother-in-law Rod Hermes, her sister-in-law Karen Carroll and her many friends with whom her memory will live on. She is also survived by her two loving cats, Laverne and Shirley.
Kathy was predeceased by her father William Carroll, her mother Virginia Carroll, her brother Jim Carroll and her sister Prue Hermes.
Visitation will be held at Kaul Funeral Home in Saint Clair Shores on Thursday January 5, 2023 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Parish on Friday January 6, 2023 at 10:30am with luncheon to follow at Lakeland Manor.
