At the age of 16, Joseph joined the Merchant Marines for two years and then enlisted in the Army. He was a WWII Veteran. After the Army, Joseph worked at Jet Aircraft in Sterling Heights, Michigan where he met his loving wife, Alyne. Later, they moved to Roseville where they raised their four children. Joseph then worked for the City of Roseville’s Sanitation Department and later became the Foreman of the highway department. He retired after 33 years of service.
After retirement, he and his family loved traveling and spending time at their cottage. He also enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife. He was a member of the VFW Bruce Post in St. Clair Shores, Michigan for over 50 years where he enjoyed a cold beer with his family and friends, while singing karaoke. One of his hobbies was collecting coins and passing out $2.00 bills. He purchased and saved stamps from around the world.
Joseph Batory is survived by his loving children of Karen (Hugh) Grady, Stephen (Ann) Batory, Joseph (Mary) Batory and Deanna (Chris) Peterson, the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Joseph is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Alyne Batory. Also, parents Mark and Anna Batory, and his siblings, Mary, Julia, Walter, Stanley, Wanda, and Edward and his daughter-in-law Kathleen Kelly Batory.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 3pm until 8pm (with a sharing service at 7:00 p.m) at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081. Visitation continues on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service at 11am. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038.
