John will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren Stephanie, Daniel, Sarah, Nevaeh, Juan, and Reagan. Also by many nephews and nieces.
Born and raised in Detroit. He graduated from Southeastern High School.
John served his country for 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in Australia as part of the Pacific Campaign.
He worked many years as a Trust Officer at City National Bank. After retirement, he worked 17 years at Farmer Jack (9 mile & Mack) where he kept the customers entertained with his jokes, songs, and trivia questions. He loved people and always showed concern for others.
He witnessed his strong faith by serving the Lord in many areas of the church, including as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and chairman of the evangelism committee. He attended church regularly with his family and used his beautiful voice to sing praises to Jesus. He also enjoyed playing the piano.
He loved baseball, fishing, golf, and boating at Harsen's Island. He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan all of his life and was born on the day of the longest recorded major league baseball game which ended in a tie after 26 innings, called due to darkness. He attended the 1935 and 1945 World Series which the Tigers won.
There will be visitation at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 20338 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. when the funeral service begins. John, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps will be buried with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his name to Lutheran Special Education Ministries.
