Jerome Gustav DeSmet, age 97, passed away on October 3, 2024. He was born on August 30, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to his late parents Arthur and Emilie DeSmet. Jerome is survived by his loving children: Marlene Torres, Katherine Redmond, Marian Smith, Therese (Garry) Redford; grandchildren: Jane (Tony), Sherry (Chuck), Amanda (Mark), Diane (Krish), Patrick, Amanda, Leah, Gerald, Brittany, Justin, Eric, Christina (Mike), Brandon; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine DeSmet, son Gerald DeSmet, and wife Murielle DeSmet.
Jerome was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, watching any and all Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings games. He enjoyed writing poetry, watching cartoons, and bowling. Jerome was very devoted in his faith and he faithfully prayed daily for the ones he loved. He was funny, smart, wise, selfless and all around a family man.
Visitation, Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday, October 7, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. (Instate 10:00 a.m.) at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 21100 Madison, St. Clair Shores. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Roseville, Michigan.
