Fr. James Lyle Bjorum, age 75, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2023. Born October 30, 1947 in Scotland, South Dakota to parents Neil and Adeline Bjorum. The growing family moved to Holland, Michigan in 1956. Dear brother to David (Karel) Bjorum, Laurie (Greg) Kimball, and John (Sandy) Bjorum. Loving uncle to Amy (Brian) Crawford, Justin (Michelle) Bjorum, Cory (Cherie) Kimball, Jessica Kimball, and Melissa (Shane) Lilly, and Brent (Kelly) Berkompas. Great Uncle to Gwendolyn Russell, Gannon Russell, Gemma Russell, Porter Bjorum, Illyana Bjorum, Jalyn Kimball, Mariiah Jackson, and Hannah, Maya, Luke, and Dylan Berkompas.
Fr. Jim graduated from West Ottawa High School in 1965. Then he went to Michigan State University for 3 years. During that time he received a call from the Lord to lead His people. He transferred to and graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary School. He was ordained February 7, 1976. Fr. Jim devoted 47 years to the Catholic Church. Fr. Jim also attended graduate school in Ottawa, Canada in the mid-1980s at the request of the diocese and served as a cannon lawyer for them before returning as a parish priest.
Other activities he enjoyed were spending time with friends - maintaining friendships over 50 years with many - and his family. He also enjoyed cooking. He loved to travel. He was also an avid runner years ago and ran several marathons.
Fr. Jim will Lie in Repose on Sunday October 29, 2023, from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:00 pm, followed by a Vigil Service to begin at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady of Hope Parish 28301 Little Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081.
Mass of Resurrection will take place on Monday October 30, 2023, beginning with a gathering at 9:00 am, until time of Mass at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Hope Parish.
Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Fr. Jim are suggested to Our Lady of Hope Parish.
