DOERR, Jack Jr. passed away peacefully on March 18, 2015 (Age 90).Beloved husband of the late Barbara June (nee Lawrence) for 61 years. Loving father of Linda Doerr-Casebolt (Michael), Carol (Walter) Pokladek, Robert (Jacqueline) Doerr. Cherished Grandfather of Mike, Chris, and Tim Pokladek, Zach, Ceci, and Alex Doerr. Jack attended Grosse Pointe South High School, Grosse Pointe, MI then moved to California and graduated from Cal Aero Tech School (Aviation Mechanic), Los Angeles, CA. He was a World War II veteran that served from May 1943 – February 1949 in the Army Air Corps and United States Air Force (Reserves 46-49). A flight engineer for B-17 in Langley Field, VA., Jack repaired planes that were sent home to the North American P-51 Factory in Englewood, CA. He received 2 honorable discharges, Good conduct medal, American Theater ribbon and the WWII Victory ribbon. He also obtained his FAA private pilot license. When returning to Michigan he attended the University of Detroit for Mechanical & Architectural Engineering and designed his own home. Jack became the owner of Detroit Illuminating Service (a Searchlight Advertising company) from 1949 to present. The company slogan was entitled “We Light the Way.” An avid toy train collector and longtime member of the Great Lakes Live Steam club. He was a current member of the American Legion Post #570. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans. A Veteran’s Memorial Service will be held at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48081on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 2 – 4 pm. Cremation will proceed and Inurnment of cremated remains will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
