Jean Maud Hunt

Lifelong resident of St. Catharines, Ont., MA University of Toronto (1936), Honourary Doctorate Brock University (1993). Died peacefully July 29, 2012 in her 99th year. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. D. Earl Hunt (2006). Jean is survived by her children Margaret Pulford (Ross) of St. Catharines; Dr. Elizabeth Hunt (Dr. Clyde Hillier) of London, Ontario; Dr. John Hunt (Sandra desChamps) of Ethel, Ontario and Douglas E. Hunt Jr. (Susan) of St. Catharines. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Christopher Pulford, Anne Fedj (Damian), Dr. Morgan Hillier, Leah Hillier, Carla Ellis (Jeff), Bryce Hunt, Brett Hunt, Cayli Hunt, Douglas E. Hunt III and Rebecca Hunt. Jean was a special great grandmother to Victor and Charlie Fedj. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Audrey Hare of Creemore, Ont. and niece Karen; predeceased by her nephew Donald Hare.

Jean Hunt taught High School in Dundalk, Toronto and Port Colborne and was revered by all her students. She was a member of the University Womens Club, Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, the first woman Chairman of the St. Catharines Board of Education and the Chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Education. Jean also served on the Board of Trustees of the Shaver Hospital, the Niagara Regional Developmental Centre, the Board of Trustees of Brock University and the Senate at Brock University. She was on many committees at St. Paul Street United Church. Jean enjoyed lawn bowling, reading and travelling. She was always devoted to her community. We mourn the loss of our wonderful mother. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date in September so that all the grandchildren may be present. Memorial donations to Silver Spire United Church, St. Catharines New Hospital Site or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
