Passed away peacefully in her 102nd year at Hiedehof Home in St. Catharines. Predeceased by her husband Allan Johnston (1994). Sadly missed by her children: Douglas Johnston, Keith Johnston, Karen (Leon) Courchaine, and Bruce (Aline) Johnston. Beloved grandmother of Tyler, Jacqueline, Cassandra and Whitney. Great grandmother of Olivia, Ewan, Everette, Sapphyre, Chaz, Sage, and Kianna. She'll be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, especially her niece Sandra Lee.
Alice began her working career at the St. Catharines City Hall and retired from CAW (Unifor), local 199. She was an avid golfer and lawn bowler. In her early years she taught Sunday School at St Thomas Anglican Church and was Akela of the St Thomas Church Cub Scout Troop. In later years she was an active member of Grace Anglican Church where she was Sunday School Secretary, worked on fundraising events for roof shingles, painting jobs and wheelchair ramp/chair lift. She took great pride in reading the gospel at Sunday services. At the time of her passing she was a member of St Columba Anglican Church. To celebrate Alice’s 100th and 101st birthdays she held successful food drives benefitting Community Care St Catharines. Alice never forgot what it was like to be hungry, and she couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate her longevity than by helping those in need.
In keeping with Alice's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Alice's life will be held at St. Columba Anglican Church, 7 St. Columba Dr. St. Catharines on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11 am. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service. If desired, memorial donations made the Alzheimer Society - Niagara Chapter or Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold. Online tributes may be left below for the family.
We wish to express our heartfelt thank you to the nurses and PSW's at Heidehof LTC for the exemplary care they gave to our mother. Their kindness, compassion and dedication to their residents make them true unsung heroes. Mom's health, happiness and comfort were always their main objective. Their kindness to our family will not be forgotten.
