Remembering him with love are his wife Patricia and his daughters Fiona Wisniewski, Janis Milne, Melissa Ross, and Carrie (John) Bowman. Derek will always be the adored “Pa” of Marisa, Joe, Jimi, Aiden and Avery. Remembered fondly by his brother Ron (the late Betty) Milne, sister Diane (Graeme) McFarlane, step father Jimmy Grieve, sister-in-law Karen Cumming, brother-in-law John (the late Audrey) Grieve, first wife Liz Milne, his many cherished friends at LVL and all those near and far. Predeceased by his parents in Scotland.
Derek devoted many happy hours to the game of soccer. He had a remarkable impact as both a coach and the President of the St. Catharines Jets Soccer Club. His dedication, knowledge and leadership advanced the club, the teams and numerous players forward. Derek’s strength as a tactician propelled teams to championships at the Regional, Provincial, National and University levels. The St. Catharines Jets and Brock University were fortunate to have shared in his expertise. Having said that, his greatest accomplishment is in the lifelong friends he made through the game, all of whom will dearly miss him.
Our thanks to the Nursing staff of GNGH, Unit D, Trillium Unit, and Hospital Administration for their compassion and many kindnesses. A very special thank you to our neighbours for their breathtaking tribute to Derek. We will hold you dear forever.
Following Derek’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Derek’s memory to Heart and Stroke would be very much appreciated.
We are forever changed by having him in our lives.
