Shirley May Coulson (nee Beck), born May 30, 1932 to Morris and Hester Beck in St. Louis, MO, passed away October 13, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Richard Coulson and the late Raymond Hogan (32 years); dearest mother to Raymond J. (Joyce) Hogan, Jr. and Sheryl Thornton and 8 step children; loving grandmother of Stacy L. (Chris) Borgmeyer and Raymond J. (Chrissy) Hogan III “Cory” and 7 step grandchildren; great grandmother to Jacob, the late Kennedy, and Benjamin and 2 step great grandchildren; and dear sister of the late Norma. Aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Shirley graduated from Eliot Grade School in 1946 and Central High School in 1950. She received a degree in micro computers from St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. She worked as a secretary for Zion Lutheran Church and School, deputy clerk for the Clayton Court House, and a field auditor for the MO Department of Revenue. Shirley was a Cardinal baseball fan, a devoted Democrat, and she loved to travel. She served on many boards and loved helping others. Shirley served as the President of ARMSE (Association of Retired MO State Employees, board member for the Treetop Condominium Owners Association and member of MOSERS (Mo State Employee Retirement System). She was also a certified ceramic instructor and had a shop in her home. She was loved and will be missed by all of the lives she touched.
Friends may visit on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home in St. Ann. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 with interment to follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association and expressions of condolence may be offered at www.alexanderstlouis.com.
