Shannon Lee Nephew, also known as Anpe Wi Waste Win in Lakota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, in Alexandria, Virginia, at the age of 52. Shannon's life was marked by her dedication to others and her profound impact on those around her.
Growing up in the metropolitan region, Shannon navigated life's challenges with grace and resilience. She was not only a devoted mother but also a role model who raised four kind and caring children. Shannon maintained a serene and nurturing environment wherever she went, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
For over 25 years, Shannon served with unwavering commitment at the National Education Association, where she not only excelled professionally but also fostered a positive influence that resonated deeply with her colleagues. Her presence was a pillar of strength and support within the community she cherished.
Shannon found joy in the simple pleasures of life: losing herself in great books, cherishing the companionship of her beloved orange cats, embarking on memorable road trips to South Dakota, and savoring her favorite green tea. Her appreciation for these moments reflected her deep understanding of life's beauty.
Though Shannon has begun her journey beyond, her memory will forever be cherished by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father, David B. Nephew, on June 23, 1987. She is survived by her mother, Mary Nephew; her partner, Leo Lookingglass; her children, Frank Lookingglass, Jesse Lookingglass, Summer Lookingglass, and Angelina Lookingglass; and her grandchildren, Eliana Lookingglass and Gianna Lookingglass.
A celebration of Shannon's life will take place on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, from 4pm to 6pm at Demaine Funeral Home, located at 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, Virginia, 22151.
A burial will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Mission Cemetery in Pine Ridge, South Dakota at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations honoring Shannon's legacy of compassion and generosity.
Shannon Lee Nephew will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her spirit of love and resilience will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come.
