He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 19, 1951. He had a 57-year career in the automotive industry which he started at age 16. He was Parts & Service Manager at Arlington Mazda for 28 years. After that closed, he was Parts & Service Advisor at Hyundai of Chantilly for four years. He loved to sing at different piano bars and was well-enjoyed by many. He loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Claudette, and six children: Dianne Chontos (Mike), John Stevens (Christina), Sean Stevens (Meredith), Andrew Stevens, Tom Crist, Timothy Crist; and two sisters: Pattie Kachinko (Tommy) and Grace Hutchinson. He had seven grandchildren: Alyssa Coleman (Rick), Mathew Hobaugh (Emily), Angela Dermotta (Joe), Joe Hess, Gabriel Hess, Connor Stevens, and Sarah Stevens. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel (DJ) Hobaugh. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Kiara Hobaugh, Mia Hobaugh, Bailey Michel, Mason Michel, Abel Gervasoni, Mackenzie Parks, Skylar Dermotta, Everleigh Dermotta, Melody Coleman, Richard Coleman, and Autumn Hobaugh.
A visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A visitation will occur Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. An interment will occur Friday, March 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S. Kings Highway, Alexandria, Virginia 22306. In lieu of flower, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society https://donate.cancer.org/ in his name.
