Robert dedicated his life to living life to the fullest. He was an avid traveler, life-long student, and loyal husband and father. He formed lasting friendships in every season of his life, and enjoyed gathering and chatting with people wherever he was – whether it be with family, friends, co-workers or travelers.
After completing his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, Robert traveled the world. Making his way through South America, Europe, and Africa where he taught economics at a university in Zambia.
After receiving his Masters in Economics, and marrying the love of his life Barbara, Robert moved to the Washington, D.C. area to begin a career at the U.S. Department of Treasury. He was passionate about his work and he retired after 30 years of distinguished service.
Robert and Barbara raised their 3 sons in Springfield, VA, in a house that he envisioned would be the focal point of the family for years to come. With this in mind, he brought his vision to life by designing a one-of-a-kind home that is filled with the love and laughter of his family.
He was predeceased by his father Robert M. Baker, his mother Susan C. Baker, and brother James R. Baker. Family members left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Barbara L. Baker; his sons, Ryan Baker and his wife, Lesley, Robert L. Baker and his wife Jessica, and Mark Baker and his wife Amiko; his brothers, Gary Baker and Thomas Baker; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Finley (Ryan Baker), and Ranon, Laurentina, Galvan and Savrick (Mark Baker).
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 2pm in the Demaine Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a reception. The family will be receiving friends and family prior to the service beginning at 1pm.
