Preston Robert George Jr.

Preston was born on February 1, 1935, at home in Alexandria, VA, to the late Edna and Preston George.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Annandale, VA; sister, Phyllis George of Alexandria, VA; children, Preston Robert George, III (Christina) of Mineral, VA, Brian Kenneth George (Colleen) of Annandale, VA, and Elise George Patton Merrell (William) of McAdenville, NC; grandchildren Erin Scanlon (Joey), Bailey Fialkowski (Jeffrey), Taylor Patton, Sean George, Molly Gehring (Steven), Preston George IV, Samuel George, Matthew Desaulnier (Annie); great-grandchildren Bradley Fialkowski, Addison Desaulnier, and George Desaulnier. He is preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Morrison of Hanover, MA.

Preston attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA. After high school, he joined the Navy, serving in the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended Bullis Prep School and received a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina where he graduated with an Engineering degree in 1962. After college he pursued a career as an Ironworker. As an Ironworker, he mentored many young men in the trade. Preston was elected President of Ironworkers Local Union 5 in 1973, then managed the International Headquarters building in Washington, DC, before retiring in 1995.

Preston was known for his love of his family and friends. He would help anyone who asked and even give the last dollar in his pocket to someone in need.

Preston loved socializing with his companions at the Legion, watching old westerns on TV, doing Sudoku and working on many projects around the house and for friends.

Preston was called home after several years of declining health and will be missed by many.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1:30 pm, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 4801 Ravensworth Rd, Annandale, VA 22003, with a celebration of life to follow at the family's private home.
