Pamela Mullens Goff passed peacefully from this earthly existence on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in Fairfax Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. Pam was married to Donald G. Goff for 41 years and was the proud mother of Donald G. Goff, Jr. of Dumfries, Virginia; Jared B. Goff of Manassas, Virginia; and John M. Goff of Phoenix, Arizona. She was also the grandmother of her beloved grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Andrew, Kaleb and Noah. Pam was enormously proud of the work and service that her sons provide as firefighters in Fairfax and Spotsylvania Counties and as a United Airlines flight crew member. She often said that part of her love and compassion was being passed on through her sons.
Pam was born on January 11, 1948 in Pearisburg, Virginia to James H. and Catherine Mullens. At an early age, she and her family moved to New Castle, Delaware, where she grew up. Her siblings include James H. Mullens, IV of Roanoke, Virginia; John R. Mullens of Newark, Delaware; and Amy Weldon of Brunswick, Maryland.
Pam was vivacious and perceptive, a great lover of life and the beauties that the world provided. As a young girl, she loved dancing and became very proficient in tap and ballet. She could also put away her fancy dance attire and play a mean game of softball. During her high school years at William Penn in New Castle, Delaware, she used those dance skills to become a varsity cheerleader, one of her proudest achievements. Even beyond dancing, Pam’s greatest love was singing and she was heavily involved in church and school choirs through her time at the University of Delaware. After graduation and marriage, Pam continued singing in church choirs and with the Mormon Choir of Washington. Additionally, Pam loved shopping and was considered by many to be an expert bargain hunter, finding articles of high quality at the lowest price. She also held a huge place in her heart for animals of all shapes and sizes, especially her beloved dogs, Princess and Honey.
Pam and Don were married in the Cadet Chapel at West Point, New York on his graduation day, June 3, 1970. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ temple in Bern, Switzerland on July 28, 1971. During their 20 years in the U.S. Army, they lived in Georgia, Germany, Texas, Alabama, Korea, Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, the Netherlands, and finally settled in Springfield and then Lorton, Virginia.
The viewing for family and friends will take place on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service is planned for Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 11:00 AM to noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 6942 Sydenstricker Road, Springfield. Burial will take place at Arlington Cemetery, Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that funds be donated to the Rheumatoid Foundation (www.arthritis.org) in honor of Pam.
