Monika Sullivan (age 88) of Annandale, VA, on January 18, 2015, beloved wife of Frank Sullivan of 57 years, died in INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Originally from Opava, Czechoslovakia and orphaned during World War II, Monika escaped to Germany where she met her husband who was serving in the U.S. Army in Munich. She immigrated to the United States in 1959. Monika was a Fairfax County Police crossing guard for 10 years, and Auxiliary Police Officer for 13 years and had recently published her memoir, MARTA: A Czech Girl’s Story of surviving the Third Reich and its Aftermath. Monika loved her dog Misha, playing Bingo and thrift store shopping. She is also the loving mother of Lilly Perkins (and Husband Ken) and Francis Sullivan (and his wife Katie), four grandchildren , Kurt, Laryn, Leanne and Imogen and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Zoey. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel on Thursday, March 26, 2015 @ 2:45pm,followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
