July 25, 1949 – January 15, 2015
Marjorie Kay (Hanson) Jones, 65, loving wife, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 15th, 2015 at the Capital Caring Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Virginia. We will miss her loving smile and infectious laughter. She had an adventurous spirit and so enjoyed the many nature trips she took with her husband Jim. They met amazing people along the way and Margie never met an animal that she didn’t love. She will be missed but not forgotten.
Marjorie was born July 25, 1949, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin the daughter of Margaret and Rufus Hanson of Osseo, Wisconsin. She graduated from Osseo High School in 1967 and entered the Navy as a Data Processing Technician in 1968. She was promoted through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer and retired in 1989. Her second career started in 1990 when she joined the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and continued until her retirement as a Software Development Lead in December, 2013.
On September 29, 1972, after a whirlwind courtship of two weeks, Margie and Jim Jones began their wonderful marriage of 42 years having met in Coronado, California where Marjorie was serving in the Navy and Jim in the Marine Corps. They were truly partners in family and career. She helped to create many wonderful memories and was a treasured friend.
Ever the avid nature traveler and photographer, Marjorie & Jim have visited Africa, Costa Rica, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, the Galapagos Islands, Hong Kong, Canada, Taiwan and Singapore.
She embraced all the many roles she took on as a “mom” (to a menagerie of cats and dogs), teacher, advisor, nurturer, and friend. But even with all she did for her family, she found the time to contribute time and funds to the many non-profit agencies promoting the welfare of animals.
We are most grateful for her love, her laughter, and the many lessons she left us. Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Jim of Springfield, VA., her sister Judy (Clayton) Call of Lancaster, Wisconsin, Juanita Kniefel (Tom Hearn) of Eleva, Wisconsin, and her sister Ellen (Donald) Smith of Fall Creek, Wisconsin.
She now joins her parents Margaret and Rufus, brother James, infant sister LaVonne and sister JoAnne that she loved so dearly and all the extended family that she so loved, in heaven.
She will be laid to rest at a later date among family at a private ceremony in Osseo, WI. Memorial donations may be given in lieu of flowers in Marjorie's name to, 4 Paws Rescue Team, Inc. P.O. Box 2908, Merrifield, VA 22116.
