Marissa Banagan Usman was born in Lucena City, Philippines to Miguel Banagan and Remedios Pasatiempo on December 2, 1956. She married Antonio Kadir Usman on August 16, 1986 in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She graduated from her Nursing degree from Quezon Memorial Hospital in Lucena City, Philippines and worked as a Registered Nurse for over forty years. Marissa's life was one of selfless service and unwavering commitment to her family, friends, profession and community.
Marissa dedicated almost three decades to the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan DC (PNAMDC) and the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA), where she held multiple positions including the PNAMDC presidency in 2011-2013. She served in 10 medical missions to the Philippines. The last one in 2020 was special as her husband Tony and daughter Adrienne joined the team. Marissa received numerous nursing and community leader awards. She played a vital role in supporting and empowering Filipino nurses. Marissa's dedication and passion inspired all those who had the privilege of working alongside her, leaving an enduring legacy that will continue to shape the future of nursing.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marissa was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her warm and welcoming spirit brought comfort and joy to those around her. Marissa's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving lasting memories of her compassionate nature.
Marissa Banagan Usman is preceded in death by father Miguel Banagan, mother Remedios Pasatiempo, sister Minda DeGuzman, sister Myriam Silverio and brother Charlie Banagan. Marissa Banagan Usman is survived by husband Antonio Usman, daughter Adrienne Usman, son Jon Marco Usman, grandson Leonardo Usman and faithful companion Rocco, brothers Miguel Banagan Junior, Ariel Banagan and Ronnie Banagan.
Marissa Usman's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the nursing community. However, her impactful legacy will live on as a reminder of the profound difference one person can make in the lives of others.
Marissa Usman will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her life was one of purpose, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
Visitation will be on Tuesday August 1st, 2023 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 2nd at 10am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. 7401 St. Michael’s Lane Annandale, VA 22003. A reception will follow from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Demaine Funeral Home 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151.
