Marilyn B. Harrison of Springfield passed away January 2, at the age of 73, after a very brief battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of 52 years to Mike Harrison, mother of Kathy (Mike) Dannholz of Springfield and Melissa (Eric) Morton of Richmond, and grandmother of Ben, Harrison, and Addie. She is also survived by Kathy Braun Kavanaugh of Spring Lake, NJ, Robert Braun of Chatham, NJ, John Braun of Oradell, NJ, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Mildred Braun, sister Barbara Braun Ix, and brother Joseph Braun.
Marilyn was born in Palisades Park, NJ, and spent her summers at the family home in Avon-By-the-Sea, NJ. She graduated from The Academy of Holy Angels in Fort Lee, NJ and Immaculata College in Pennsylvania, where she met her husband at Pennsylvania Military College. Marilyn taught in the Fairfax County School system for over 30 years. In recent years, she spent her time spoiling her grandchildren and water walking with her friends at both Audrey Moore Recreation Center and North Springfield Swim Club. For the last 18 years, Marilyn spent Wednesday evenings knitting, chatting, and catching up with her daughter and girlfriends. She loved spending time at her cherished family beach house in Sanderling, NC, on the Outer Banks, where she enjoyed days on the beach with her family and evening sunsets on her pier on the Currituck Sound. Marilyn was loved by everyone who met her and will be missed by all.
Friends are welcome on Wednesday, January 6, from 5-8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, at 11 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Springfield.
