On Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 Ken died at his residence at the Fairfax in Fort Belvoir, Virginia at the age of 86. He was the devoted husband of 63 years to Laura Jean White and loving father to his four children Linda Guida (Richard), Jeffrey White (Treena), Dianne White and Cynthia Basham (Bevan). He was a proud grandfather to Alexander White, Eric White, Christopher Guida, Nicholas Guida, Jessica Liese, Stephen Liese, Bryn Basham and Brady Basham.
Ken was a retired Colonel in the United States Army. As a career Armor officer, he served overseas in Germany, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. He subsequently commanded both the 1st Battalion 10th Infantry and the 3rd Battalion 77th Armor at Fort Carson, Colorado. In later years he served on the staff of the US Army War College, in the Pentagon on the Army staff, in Germany on the EUCOM staff, and finished his military career at the Presidio of San Francisco where he retired after 32 years of service. He then embarked on a second career, working for SRA until retiring for good to enjoy life with his family.
Ken and Laura loved to travel, and remained active members of their community at the Fairfax. Ken particularly enjoyed serving in the Protestant Mission Society.
Ken will be remembered as a man of keen intellect and humility with a broad smile and great sense of humor. He is deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
