Joseph E. McGuire Sr.

Honorable Joseph E. McGuire, Sr. of Alexandria, VA passed away early in the morning on December 2, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Nancy Carol McGuire; beloved father to Maureen of Atlanta, Joseph, Jr. of Occoquan, Margaret “Peggy” of Alexandria and Michael “Mick” of Arlington; and also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The son of Irish immigrants, he enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 17. He later worked as a fireman for the city of St. Louis before earning his law degree from Saint Louis University at night with three young children at home. After a long career, he retired as an Administrative Law Judge for the Department of Justice in 2000. Those who met him knew him as a man of unparalleled integrity and generosity.

Friends are welcome for a viewing on Monday, December 7, from 4-8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 8 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, VA. Inurnment with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, www.alzfdn.org.
