Its been 4 years of you gone. I miss you so much.

We are gathered today to celebrate the life of my father, John Anthony Cicotello.  
He was born in Portage, a small mining town in western Pennsylvania.
Dad was the youngest of eight brothers and one sister. His parents were both Italian immigrants. He was orphaned at age 16, and continued to live in his childhood home with his sister Josephine and her husband Ted. Dad  graduated high school in 1947.

My father is a US Army Veteran who served in Korea, as an enlisted man and received the Bronze star medal for Valor during combat.
After returning from military duty, my father was ready to marry the love of his life Peg.  However, Peg was determined that my dad be enrolled in college before she agreed to marry him.
After finishing his degree at Penn State in York, my mom and dad relocated from Pennsylvania to the Washington, D.C. area where he started a 33-year career, as a design engineer with Melpar Inc.  Dad would proudly show you his two indented fingers where he held his drafting pencil.
Dad and mom made their home in Springfield, VA where they raised their three children.  We still laugh about all of us living in that tiny three bedroom house with just one bathroom!
After dad’s retirement, mom and dad enjoyed traveling especially to Hawaii.  They lived their best life, visiting with his brother Pat who resided there.
Dad loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as Pappap. He was always available to be a Washington, DC tour guide for family and friends.
Dad was all about the Number 1…. he had one wife, one home, one job, and one religion.

Of all the lessons that dad has taught me, the final one was how to die with dignity. His illness may have gradually taken his life, but his positive spirit and faith in God never wavered. 

Dad, thank you for being a wonderful role model.  I am proud be your son, and we will all miss you greatly.


 





It has been many years since we last saw 
and visited with our uncle and aunt, John
and Peggy.  John was always a kind and
considerate man who was especially helpful to mom after the loss of Vince.
He was a wonderfully  supportive father
and loving husband and a decorated veteran .  Thank you, Uncle Johnny for your service and your family values.


I miss and love you PapPap. 

Feel no guilt in laughter, he’d know how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that he is not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever; he would not want you to.
He’d hope that you could carry on the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared,
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
Let memories surround you, a word someone may say
Will suddenly recapture a time, an hour, a day,
That brings him back as clearly as though he were still here,
And fills you with the feeling that he is always near.
For if you keep those moments, you will never be apart
And he will live forever locked safely within your heart.


We have fond memories of Uncle John and Aunt Pegs visits to Marge and Betty in Portage. He was a wonderful, soft-spoken man. Please take comfort in your memories and celebrate his life.

I have so many memories of my Uncle John. You were the best tour guide in Washington DC🙂. But most of all, you took care of me just like my dad. I will always miss you and think of you with a smile. Peace be with you Uncle John. 

When I was growing up, my father, Louis Cicotello, shared stories of his brother John.  My father, who installed floor coverings, hired John after he returned from the Korean War. 

I first met Uncle John in the 1960s at the Cicotello family reunions. He had a wonderful sense of humor and very kind towards his nephews and nieces.

The first time I visited Washington, D.C., I stayed with John and Peg. Uncle John and Paul toured me around to all the sites. John was very generous with his time. 

In 2017, I made a second trip to D.C. with my brother Carl. John was thrilled to spend time with us and remarked that his week was "six Saturdays and Sunday." We laughed out loud!

I will miss my Uncle John. Peace to his children and grandchildren at this sorrowful time. 

Uncle John’s wry sense of humor and devotion to family will be an enduring memory. Sincere condolences to all of his loved ones. Rest In Peace.
