Jesse Edward Martin Sr. was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on March 14, 1928; only child to Noema Coleman and March Martin. He spent 20 years in the US Army and 15 years as a civilian equal employment opportunity specialist. He and his beloved wife achieved notoriety in 1970 for being the first black home owners in the Stoneybooke Community of Alexandria, Virginia.
When Jesse Sr. wasn't providing for his family, he could be found on the fairway of a local golf course. He was an excellent golfer, golf instructor, member of the Fort Belvoir golfing team, and multiple winner of the Fort Belvoir Golf Club Championship.
Jesse Sr. is known by family and friends as a devoted husband to his wonderful wife of 61 years Dorothene Martin. Together they raised 3 children: Jesse Jr, Hansen Sr, and their beloved late daughter Valois Salone. He was a beloved grandfather to Hansen Jr, Laura Boykins and Danielle Baskerville.
Jesse E. Martin Sr. fell asleep in death May 24, 2019 at his home in the care of his wife, 2 sons, and daughter in law. His long life of 91 years can be attributed to the loving and tireless efforts of his beautiful wife, "Dot".
