Jack Purdy passed away peacefully at Sunrise at Springfield on, Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the age of 95. Jack retired from the Washington Terminal Company where he was a railroad electrician. He fought at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D Day with headquarters company, 116th Infantry, 29th Division, and was a telephone and telegraph linesman maintaining communications wire for the combat team, after serving his year of selective service with the VA National Guard, when the U.S. entered the war. Jack was the recipient of a bronze star for his service. He was born in Washington, DC and was one of ten children of the late Arthur Gorge Purdy and the late Grace Lee Matthews, both of Maryland. He is survived by his daughter Diane Berry and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Margaret Deavers; who passed in 1994. A visitation will be held, Wednesday, October 3rd, from 2:00PM-6:00PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA, where a Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 12Noon. Interment to follow in Mount Comfort Cemetery.
