October 3, 2014 of Alexandria, VA following a short illness. Gordon was born January 28, 1942 in Trenton, NJ and graduated from Guilford College in 1964. Following his retirement as a government career Civil Servant, he participated in volunteer activities with Great Falls Park, Smithsonian Institution and Travelers Aid at National Airport. He especially loved volunteering at Wolf Trap National Park for over 30 years. He developed a passion for researching his family genealogy and was thrilled to discover his Mayflower ancestors.
He is survived by sons Gordon Compton Jr (Tracie) of Bellevue, WA and Geoffrey Compton (Jennifer Webb) of Duluth, MN. He is also survived by granddaughters Erin and Caitlin Compton of Bellevue, WA, brother Daniel of Mauricetown, NJ and step-sister Jill of Lumberton, NJ along with nieces and nephews. His parents Gordon A. Compton and Frances A. Lewis, and sister, Carol predeceased him. His marriage to Alice Sue Childress ended in divorce. He is also survived by long-time companion Mary Grafton, Alexandria, VA. Gordon will always be remembered for his love of good food and zany sense of humor.
