Frank was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Frank and Thyra Martin on July 23, 1932. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School and from Loyola University. He married Virginia (Ginny) Potter on March 17, 1956, in Northfield, Illinois. While serving in the Army, he was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and several Air Medals and Legions of Merit. He was a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam wars.
After moving to Annandale, VA, Frank and his family were parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and actively involved in the Catholic Family Movement (CFM). Frank was also instrumental in the creation of the Capital Beltway Hockey League, Fairfax, Virginia, coaching from the 1970s until the early 1990s. Most recently he was a member of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Martin, and his sister Loretta Tanzi.
Frank is survived by his wife; Ginny, his children; Jennifer, Diane, Tricia, Jim, John, and Tom, and their spouses, his sister Mary Perkins, and his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 14, at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church with a reception immediately following at Falcons Landing.
Burial services will be held with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
