Evelyn R Jones

Evelyn Rowe Jones passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024. Born May 8, 1928 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Harold and Alice Rowe, she graduated from Crosby High School and worked at American Brass after graduation. She met Edwin H. Jones, Jr., when he returned from the war and they were married in a beautiful garden wedding less than six months later.

Though separated by death from Edwin in 1988, she continued to be a loving mother to their four children: Edwin H. Jones III (deceased) of Southbury, CT; Stephen R. Jones (deceased—Liz) of Bethesda, MD; Bruce A. Jones (Peggy) of Bowdoin, ME; and Sherrill Edwards (Dave) of Springfield, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Eliza Jones (Pat) of Silver Spring, MD; Kate Jones (Brian) of Vancouver, BC; Tucker Jones (Eliza) of Brunswick, ME; Cooper Jones (Dara) currently serving in Naples, Italy; and Rowley Snell (Patrick) of Whitehouse, TX. Her three great grandchildren—Aiden, Finn, and Maeve—were the joy of her life.

Always dedicated to education, she completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while raising her family. She continued to be a proponent of women in education through her long-time association with the American Association for University Women and later the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO) sisterhood.

Mom had a love for travel, taking many trips throughout the world which resulted in numerous and humorous stories from dugout canoes in South America to Gypsies in Italy, but mostly we remember the many adventures around the country and the world as a family, first as two generations and later as three.

Anyone who ever met Mom saw a bright smile on her face and an angel on her shoulder. Many have described her as amazing, inspiring, and encouraging. She was all that and so much more. She will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Greenspring Chapel at Greenspring Senior Living Community in Springfield, VA.
