Eleanor Spillane Gray (formerly of Fairfax Station, VA.), passed away peacefully on August 6, 2014 in Lake Ridge, VA. Eleanor was born in Boston, MA. on July 17, 1917, to Philip and Mary Spillane. She graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA. in 1939. A World War II veteran, she was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Lieutenant in 1946. In 1963, she began a teaching career that spanned 21 years. Beginning in 1968, Eleanor taught French at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax County, VA.; she earned a Masters Degree in Education from Virginia Tech. in 1974 and retired from Woodson as the Director of Guidance in 1984.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Cdr. William J. Gray USN (Ret). She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Richard and Lucia Gray of Baton Rouge, LA; Philip and Terry Gray of Lake Ridge, VA; and John and Jean Gray of Great Falls, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Jean, Margaret, and John Gray. She is preceded in death by one grandchild, Steven Gray.
