Doug Martin

Paul Douglas Martin, 71, of Gainesville, Virginia, surrounded by family and friends, passed away on February 23, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Doug was born in Alexandria, Virginia on May 14, 1952, to parents Comer “Paul” and Lucy Martin and grew up in Annandale, Virginia, along with his sister Donna. Doug also resided in Fairfax, Springfield, and Clifton, Virginia.

Doug and Angela (Stickelmaier) were married on November 1, 2003, and built a home and life together in Gainesville, Virginia. Doug retired in 2008, after dedicating 38 years to the National Technical Information Service, where he worked as an IT professional. Doug was a devoted son, husband, father, and “Paw Paw” and cherished time with family and friends. Doug enjoyed sharing his love of cars and sports and was an avid golfer, bowler, and softball player most of his life. He traveled on golf trips with friends, played Senior Softball around the country and enjoyed going to the beach on family vacations. He was there to build a deck, install flooring, repair leaks or lend a hand for family or friends, or simply work out in the yard mowing or digging holes for Angela.

Doug is survived by Angela, his loving wife of 20 years, his sons from a previous marriage Shawn Martin (Stacey) of Springfield, Virginia and Brent Martin (Jordan) of Brentsville, Virginia; grandsons Kyle and Jake of Springfield, Virginia and John of Providence, Rhode Island. Doug was predeceased by his father Paul, mother Lucy, and sister Donna.

Visitation (1:00 pm – 2:00pm) and Memorial Service (2:00pm – 3:00 pm) will be held on March 6, 2024, at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia, 22151. A celebration will be held at Kilroys in Springfield, immediately following the service.
