OBITUARY
Desmond Michael Burke
May 24, 1972 – November 16, 2022
IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
Desmond Burke was a loving brother, son, and friend. He fought a courageous battle against ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) but passed away from complications on November 16, 2022.
Desmond was raised in Annandale, Virginia, and was a graduate of St. Michael’s Parochial School (‘86), Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School (‘90), and George Mason University (‘96), where he was an active member of the Theta class of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity.
Desmond had an illustrious career with the U.S. Supreme Court as a Network Systems Engineer and a Contractor in the telecom space with SinglePoint Global. Anyone who knew Desmond knew he was a World Champion in Golden Tee, an avid traveler with over 20 international excursions that often included family and friends, and a connoisseur of many fine wines and bourbons from around the globe. Des was an avid fan and attendee of the Preakness Stakes in Maryland. Des, along with Scott and countless friends always found a way to leave their mark on that track year after year. Des’s quick wit, sense of humor and adventurous spirit led to an extraordinary life full of unique situations which always resulted in a new friend and an epic new story.
Desmond is survived by his father, Michael “Val” Burke (Blindwell, County Galway, Ireland); his mother, Michael Seibert Burke (Boise, Idaho); his sister Shannon Burke (Arlington, VA.); and a wonderful extended family of Aunts, Uncles & cousins around the world including Australia, England, Ireland and the US.
Desmond also leaves behind an exceptional group of friends who became family, including Scott & Suzan Boeck, Paul & Christine Johnson, Tony & Frank Deitrich, Lisa Keener, Michael Crawford, Jim Workman, Scott Kennelly and many others.
The family thanks all the doctors and nurses at Johns Hopkins University Center for ALS Specialty Care and especially JinAe Arneklev, Nurse Practitioner; Dr. Jeffrey Rothstein, M.D., Ph.D. and research coordinator Amy Tesch for their compassionate demeanor and gracious care of Desmond.
Desmond will be mourned by many and missed by all! May his love for family, friends, the Washington Capitals and the Dallas Cowboys live on forever!
