Dale was born September 15, 1924 near Mill Run, Pennsylvania, son of Lloyd and Goldie Hay. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Verla, brothers Wade and Ray. He is survived by his loving family, wife Norma [nee Hunsinger], daughter Pamela (and husband Richard), sons Stephen (and wife Cynthia) and James (and wife Catherine), beloved grandchildren Cory (and wife Sally), Drew, Kate, Elliott, MacKenzie and William, sister Dorothy, brother Ralph, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Dale graduated from Connellsville High School [PA], moved to Washington, D.C. in 1942 and worked on building the Pentagon and Naval Gun Factory with his brothers. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force as a B-24 Liberator gunner, flying 35 missions in Germany and Central Europe in 1944 and 1945.
Dale earned a B.S. from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, where he met his wife Norma. Returning to Washington, D.C., he worked for All American Aviation, later known as Allegheny and U.S. Air, retiring in 1988 as Vice President - Corporate Affairs. Dale was also an officer in the Tax Executive Institute.
In retirement, Dale continued his community and church volunteerism, devoting time to the Northern Virginia United Methodist Board of Missions.
