William A. Saucier, 73, of Springfield, died at 1:35 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. William was born on August 7, 1932 in Springfield, the son of Arthur E. and Margaret E. Fitzpatrick Saucier. He married Mary Lou Dirksen on September 29, 1951 in Springfield. William was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School, where he played on the basketball team and was nicknamed “The Ghost”. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to the University of Dayton. He then completed and graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Albuquerque, NM and began his career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a clerk in 1954. He became a Special Agent in 1958 and retired in 1982 after thirty-two years of service. William received many commendations as a Special Agent. He was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of fame in April 2006. He was a member of St. Agnes Church and a former member of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #364 and a member of the Retired FBI Association. William was a giving and selfless gentleman who will be remembered for his love of his friends and family and his great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Joseph F. Halpin. He is survived by his wife: Mary Lou Saucier of Springfield; two sons: William (wife, Patty Kervin) Saucier of Springfield and Marty (wife, Julie) Saucier of Statesboro, GA; two daughters: M. Kathleen Saucier of Catlin and Patti Ryan of Danville; five grandchildren: Jay Patrick Ryan, Kayley Marie Ryan, Jake William Ryan, Joseph Saucier and Anne Bishoff; four nieces and three nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on, Monday, May 1, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Rosary Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield, with Rev. Michael Haag celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Masses for William A. Saucier or National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, 215 W.
