Bill was born on October 15, 1944, in Lake Forest, Illinois, the son of Henry and Ella Bried. He was a graduate of Bradley University and was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Bill worked in academic and scholarly book publishing for 30 years, starting in New York. 27 of those years were serving as editor and production manager of the Charles C. Thomas Publishing Company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Springfield. He completed his working career with the State Journal-Register in Springfield. Bill retired in 2010 and continued to work as a freelance book editor.
Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs, Pete, Springer, Annie, Andy, Carly, Chelsea, Abby, and Gunnar. A centering focus of his life was his love of travel, and especially the northwoods of Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, where he enjoyed his lake cottage and the company of friends for many years. He enjoyed his volunteer work with several Springfield organizations, and he was an active member of the Unity Church of Practical Christianity of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob, who was killed while serving in the Vietnam War, and his beloved dogs: Pete, Springer, Annie, Andy, Carly, Chelsea, Abby, and Gunnar.
Bill is survived by his life partner, Bill Jeffery; and golden retriever, Finn.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Private Memorial Graveside Services were held at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
