William "Bill" T. Phillips

William "Bill" T. Phillips, 78, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at home in his man cave. Bill was born on March 3, 1937 in Springfield, the son of William M. and Ruth Green Phillips. He married Carol Ann Barnett on October 24, 1959. She preceded him in death in 1997. He then married Mary Alice Nickel on November 15, 1997 in Springfield. Bill was a graduate of Feitshans High School. He attended Brown's Business College and earned an associate's degree in business from Lincoln Land Community College. Bill served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He was employed by Bradley Supply Company, Weaver's Manufacturing, Fiat Allis, and retired from CWLP in 1998 as a Machinist. Bill was known for his great laugh. He enjoyed woodworking, cars, guns, telling stories, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Ruth "Peaches" Burg. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Phillips; two sons, William T. (Jenn) Phillips II of Elkhart and Mark E. (Janice) Syson of Springfield; two daughters, Shirley Ann (Bob) Phillips-Black of Springfield and Crystal (companion, Rich Whiting) Syson-Sweeney of Williamsville; seven grandchildren, Robby (Libby), Ryan, Katie, Jake, Jessica, Gracie, and Sawyer; two siblings, Ed (Sharon) Phillips of Springfield and Judy (Junior) Smith of Kilbourne; and one son-in-law, Dave Sweeney. Funeral Ceremony: 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Pastors Jon Morrissette and Jay Brooks officiating. Family will receive friends following the Funeral Ceremony from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
