Walter John Kuizinas, 91, of Springfield, passed away on December 7, 2023 at his residence. He was born on April 23, 1932 in Clinton, Indiana to George Kuizinas and Susie Norkus Kuizinas. Walter married Alice Dambacher on November 9, 1983 in Decatur and she survives.
Mr. Kuizinas is also survived by one son Kovin (Terri) Kuizinas of Mt. Auburn, Illinois, two step-sons: Bob (April) Dambacher of Mechanicsburg and Bill (Diane) Dambacher of Chatham, eight grandsons: Eric, Zac, Jordan, Jay, Erin, Allen, Sully and Max, three granddaughters: Ashli, Alissa and Emily, three great-grandsons: Ambrose, Felix and Chase and one great-granddaughter Sophia. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Bill, Tony, John and George and one sister Martha.
As a young man Walter musselled on the Wabash River with his family. Walter moved from Indiana to Decatur, Illinois and lived there most of his life. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Korea on the USS Monrovia where he was a metalsmith. In 1997, after retiring from the A.E. Staley Company after forty three years of service as a boilermaker, Walter and Alice moved to Springfield. Walter had his pilot’s license and owned his own plane for many years. Walter loved to hunt, fish and remodel his home. He loved the Lord with his whole heart and he was a born again Christian.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm on Friday December 15, 2023 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday December 14, 2023 at Bisch and Son.
