Vincent Anthony Madonia, 69, life long resident of Springfield, passed away at 2:43 a.m., Friday, September 14, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born the son of Joseph and Frances Sgro Madonia in Springfield on November 10, 1931. He married Roseann Brown at St. Joseph Church on April 23, 1960. He was a member of Christ the King Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. At retirement in 1997, he had completed 37 years of service with the Automotive Wholesalers of Illinois. He was Executive Vice President for AWOI from 1976 to 1997, and prior to that served as Executive Director and Field Service Director for the association. In addition to his many AWOI leadership duties, he served on the Board of Regents for the National Automotive Management Institute, Board of Directors for the Highway Users Conference, Advisory Panel for Hazardous Waste Research & Information Center, Auto Parts Specialists Advisory Comm., The Governor’s Club, and the Auto Repair Advisory Board. He was also a registered Illinois lobbyist, a national public speaker and had been published in several national publications. Along with these and other accomplishments Mr. Madonia was a graduate of Bradley University, a veteran of the Korean War, a graduate of the National Automotive Management Institute, a four-year student for the Institute for Organizational Management, past president of the Automotive Wholesalers Association Executives, Man of the Year for the Automotive Wholesalers Association Executives, Aftermarket Leadership Spotlight, past dean at the National Automotive Management Institute, received Certificate of Appreciation from the Automotive Service Industry Association, the Innovative Award- Illinois Innovative Waste Reduction Award-presented by Governor Jim Thompson, Automotive Aftermarket Education Award-Northwood Institute, Certificate of Appreciation-Indiana Automotive Wholesalers Association, membership committee-American Society of Association Executives, nominating committee-Illinois Society of Association Executives. He was published on the cover of Jobber & Warehouse Executive Magazine, and was an honored member of the 1990’ Who’s Who of U.S. Executives. He was also an accomplished woodworker, a stained glass artisan, an avid gardener, member of the N.R.A., and life member of the Abe Lincoln Gun Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: John and Andrea Madonia. He is survived by his wife: Roseann; four children: Frances (husband, Gregg) Zimmerman of Bloomington, IL, Joseph (wife, Karen) Madonia of Naperville, IL, Annamarie (husband, Drake) Israel of Springfield, and Matthew (wife, Teresa) Madonia of Springfield; two brothers: Sam Madonia of Springfield, and Frank (wife, Sandra) Madonia of Springfield; seven sisters: Rosalia Guarella of Las Vegas, NV, Nina (husband, Carl) Rothe of Sherman Oaks, CA, Mary Nestler of Springfield, Lucia Midiri of Springfield, Theresa (husband, Tom) Nicastro of St. Louis, MO, Josephine (husband, Larry) Romang of Springfield, and Margaret Paserri of Davenport, IA; eleven grandchildren: Joseph, Kate, Nicholas, and Emily Zimmerman; Sarah, Allison, and Hannah Madonia; and David, Andrew, Matthew, and Vincent Israel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2001 with a Wake Service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Christ the King Church on Monday, September 17, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
