Vera J. McDermott

Vera was born on September 19, 1933, in Rushville, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Pearl (Ambrosius) Jett. She married her first husband C. Richard Fox in 1952. He preceded her in death, and she then married Frank McDermott in 1970. He also preceded her in death.

Vera graduated from Jacksonville High School and was the co-owner and director of Wee Care Day Care. She also owned and operated A Grand Place Residential Care Home. Vera enjoyed art, flower arranging, scrapbooking, playing the piano and accordion, working puzzles, and taking care of others.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; twin sisters, Nora Edith and Dora Ethel Jett; sister, Bernice Hubbert; granddaughter, Chanda Fox; and nephews, Bill and Gary Hubbert.

Vera is survived by her children, Richard A. (Carol) Fox of Springfield, Pamela S. (Ray, deceased) Griffitts of Springfield, Juanita H. (Mark) Jones of Loami, and Bryan Lewis of Springfield; grandchildren, Ryan (Kourtlyn) Sergent, Todd (Marnie) Sergent, Cameron Jones, and Charissa Fox; great-grandchildren, Breanne South, Laila Sergent, Allayna Cordier, Oden Fox, and Violet Sergent; great-great-grandchildren, Shawn and Kaliya South; nieces and nephews, Josh Coder, Marshan (Brian) Beiley, Sean (Laura) Bertoux, and Charlie (Amanda) Lucas; and 9 great nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home with Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, IL.
