Tommy was born on December 28, 1977, in Springfield, the son of Richard and Nettie (Hutchens) Thompson.
He earned his HVAC certification and owned and operated Thompson’s Heating & Cooling. Tommy was a Harley and Pontiac enthusiast, loved riding and was a member of the Band of Brothers Motorcycle Club. He loved to cook, especially on the grill. He never knew a stranger, whether it was his clients or Club brothers, Tommy always made everyone feel loved and cared for. Tommy was an amazing son, father, brother, and husband, proud grandfather, everyone’s best friend, and he will be deeply missed.
Tommy was preceded in death by his maternal grandpa, Jacob Hutchens; paternal grandparents; aunt, Lillian Brink; and cousins, Christopher Whitehorn and RoseAmber Hutchens.
He is survived by his father, Richard (Rene) Thompson of Belleville, IL; mother, Nettie Thompson of Springfield; wife, Jessica Ferry of Springfield; sons, Maleckei and John Dougherty, both of Springfield; daughters, Torrey (Austin Elder) Thompson, Tierra Thompson, and Tahya Dougherty, all of Springfield; grandson, Charlie J. Elder of Springfield; a granddaughter due in September 2023; grandmother, Rose Whitehorn; brothers, Kevin (Tara Weakley) Thompson, Jacob (Torri Dodson) Thompson, and Mickey Thompson, all of Springfield; sisters, Nicole and Karley Thompson, both of Springfield; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
