Tom was born on March 20, 1943, in Belmont, Illinois, the son of Hal and Iris (Tanquary) Butler. He married Alecia Gail Baker on April 1, 1972, in Clinton, IL.
Tom graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Commodity Futures Broker and was a member of the Aqua Sports Club, VFW, and American Legion Post #32. Tom loved music, sang karaoke as often as he could, and even sang at his daughter’s wedding. Tom had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them and his family. He was funny, always had a joke to tell, and shared his positivity with all. Tom had a great outlook on life and lived it to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, Paul Gibson.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Alecia Butler of Springfield; children, Shelley (Joe) Tulipana of Springfield, and Michael (Amy) Butler of Chatham; grandchildren, Sylas, Logan, Kylie, Jacob, Ezekiel, and Jack; great-granddaughter, Kaylani; brother, Greg Gibson of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Department of Defense at the beginning of the visitation at 5:00 p.m.
Family will host a Celebration of Life on Friday, August 19, 2022, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., at Aqua Sports Club, 1 Club Area, Springfield, IL 62712.
