Stanley R. "Dick" Sapp, 90, of Springfield, died at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Auburn Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Dick was born May 1, 1925 in Springfield, the son of Whitney P. Sapp, Sr. and Hazelle M. Handley Sapp. He married Beverly S. Stoutamyer on April 16, 1977 in Springfield. Dick graduated from Springfield High School in 1943. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid, which is now an Air and Sea Museum in NY Harbor. He was also awarded the Purple Heart. He spent his entire career with Illinois Bell Telephone, as an installer and repairman, until he retired in 1983. Dick later started his own telephone business called Residential Telephone Service. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club #158, Elks Golf League, and Grasshoppers Golf League, and was a die-hard Cubs and Bears fan. He was also very honored to have taken the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Dick and Beverly enjoyed spending many winters at their home in Mesa, AZ surrounded by family and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steve and Todd Sapp; two sisters, Mary Jane Field and Dorothy Sapp; and a brother, Whitney P. Sapp, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Beverly S. Sapp of Springfield; son, Mark of Mesa, AZ; daughters, Debi (Alan) Baum of Chatham and Betsey Freer of Scottsdale, AZ; brother-in-law, Ron (Cheri) Walker of Springfield; step-son, Dave Stoutamyer of KY; step-daughter, Julie Johnson of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Danna Sapp of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Chris (Samantha), Rob (LeAnn), Cassady, Dillon, Hunter (Nicole), Stephenie, Jackie, Kala, Kyle, Tyler, and Sam; great-grandchildren, Jack, Adam, Chase, Gage, and Ava; plus several nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved dog, Luna. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Mike Harney of West Side Christian Church officiating.
