Springfield Dominican Sister Myra Flahive died March 27, 2024, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in 1939 in Chicago, to Joseph and Mary (nee Maloney) Flahive and baptized Mary Margaret at St. Bartholomew Church. She made her profession of vows as Sister Myra Joseph in 1960 at Sacred Heart Convent.
Sister Myra taught K-8 elementary students throughout her ministry in Springfield, Decatur, Morrisonville, Matteson, Aurora and Chicago, IL. She was much beloved in her last two assignments, Our Lady of Lourdes, Decatur, where she served for 12 years, and Our Lady of Grace, Chicago, where she spent 22 years.
Sister Myra was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph and Thomas Flahive; sisters, Kathleen McLaughlin, Eileen Holbrook, Rosemary Jagla, Joan Flahive, and Patricia Galante. She is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and their families; and her Dominican Sisters.
Visitors are welcome; Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Aquinas Center, Sacred Heart Convent, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, IL 62704. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel with Father Robert Kelly, OP, celebrant.

Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Calvary Cemetery. Livestreamed on Facebook at @springfieldop.org
