She was born in Macomb on April 1, 1945, the daughter of Lyle R. and Vera E. Bucy Brillart. She married Lloyd Smith on November 19, 1961. Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Shirley attended Augusta High School. She had fond memories of her time as a waitress at the Holiday Inn. She retired from Franklin Life after 30 years as a department supervisor. After retirement she worked as a mail carrier in her hometown of Sherman for 5 years. Shirley was a generous volunteer with Springfield Junior Womens League, a founding member of the WHO Group (Women Helping Others), and a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed scrapbooking, puzzles, playing cards, bowling, horseback riding, and traveling with her family. Shirley’s bright and outgoing personality was contagious and she always left others with a smile and a hug.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Norma J. Standard.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lori L. (fiancé, Layne Zimmers) Smith, Sandy L. (Randy) Petersen, Stacy E. (John) Saladino; grandchildren, Coltin and Amy Saladino, and Abby and Kayla Petersen; siblings, Bill Brinton, Mary Root, and Leona Dorethy; beloved dog, Rocky; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Celebrant Parian Hull.
Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
