Shirley Louise Elliott, 82, of Springfield, and formerly of Loami, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. She was born on August 17, 1935, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of Carl and Minnie (Walter) Rieck. Shirley married Lee Roy Elliott on June 6, 1964 at St. John's Lutheran Church in New Berlin. He preceded her in death on August 11, 2012. Shirley was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in New Berlin, and its Mary Martha Guild, Vacation Bible School and Walther League. She babysat for numerous families. Shirley was a graduate of New Berlin High School. She enjoyed exhibiting items in the Sangamon County Fair for over 50 years. Shirley enjoyed playing with cats, collecting cat items, collecting salt and pepper shakers, making arts and crafts, volunteering to help others in as many ways as she could, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She had many laughs playing the Apples to Apples and UNO games with family. Surviving are one son, Roy (wife, Linda) Elliott of Sherman; three daughters, Renetta (husband, Carter) Logue of Newmansville, Rochelle (husband, Tim) Simpson of Momence, and Ronda (husband, Jeff) Whitehead of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Blake, Brandon and Benjamin Elliott, all of Sherman, Coleman, Clinton III, Carter Jr. and Carson Logue, all of Newmansville, and Danielle (boyfriend, Chad High) and Wayne Simpson, all of Momence; two step-granddaughters, Amber and Brandy Whitehead, both of Springfield; one great-granddaughter, AdaLynn Logue ; one step-great-granddaughter, Kylie Whitehead; sister, Dorothy Mae Rieck of New Berlin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale (wife, Marie) Elliott of Pekin; one niece, Tracy (husband, Chad) Kramer of East Peoria; and two great-nieces, Danielle and Christina Kramer. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Helen, who died of pneumonia in 1931 when Helen was a little over a year old; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter (Shirley) Rieck (Walt passed away January 25, 2013 and Shirley Rieck passed away September 16, 1995); her father and mother-in-law, Saul and Emma (Herman) Elliott; and one brother-in-law, Wayne Franklin Elliott (POW/MIA October 1952, North Korea). Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 - 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 300 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. David Benning and Chaplain David Harmon co-officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
