Richard W. Shaughnessy, 79, of Springfield, passed away at 11:06 a.m., April 25, 2001 at St. John's Hospital. He was born April 25, 1922 the son of Erard Joseph and Anna Reine Borne Shaughnessy in Chicago, IL. He married Valeria ''Vi'' Shadis at St. Vincent DePaul Church on October 23, 1954 and she survives. Mr. Shaughnessy was a news reporter for WMAY and later worked for Illinois Department of Conservation. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the ARMY AIR CORP. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Shaughnessy is survived by his wife: Valeria ''Vi'' of Springfield; four daughters: Adrienne (husband,Terry) Andrews of Springfield, Elizabeth (husband, Geoffrey) Chun of Oakbrook, IL, Anne V. Shaughnessy of Des Plaines, IL, and Theresa (husband,Todd) Bogardus of Springfield; two sisters: Julia (husband,Charles) O'Bosky of Port Orchard, WA, and Yvette Jensen of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren: Vincent Andrews, Courtney Andrews, Nicole Andrews, Robert Chun, Steven Chun, and Carolyn Chun; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center from 5-8 p.m., Friday April 27, 2001 with a Wake Service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Patrick Wright, VF at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Agnes Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seven County Kidney Fund 800 N.
