SPRINGFIELD - Russell Burgar, 83, of Springfield passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice. Russell was born February 4, 1929 in Bissell, IL, the son of Raymond and Irene (Cole) Burgar. Russell married Evelyn Williams on September 2, 1950 in Springfield. They celebrated nearly 60 years together, until she preceded him in death in January, 2010.
Russell was a driver and a service man for 7 Up for many years, he later worked for Van’s IGA until he retired. He was an avid soccer fan; he loved to bowl, golf, play softball, and family croquet. Russell played for Steve & Don’s Fastpitch Softball team and was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his children: Linda (Gary) Frey, Laurie Burgar, and Jason (Nikki) Burgar, all of the Springfield area; 6 grandchildren: Mikal Sutton, Zachary (Amanda) Sutton, Caitlin (fiancé Theo), Taylor Sutton, Luke Burgar and Skylar Burgar; his brother and sisters: Norma Thompson, John Burgar, and Judy Jones. Also preceding Russell in death were brothers and sister: Larry Burgar, Raymond Burgar, Clara Wanless, Dick Burgar and Jim Burgar.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, from 4-7 pm at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St., Springfield IL 62703. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, at 2 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Kathy Swaar of Knox Presbyterian Church, conducting the services. Burial will follow the services at Roselawn Memorial Park.
