Roy L Vaughn, 94, of Springfield passed away Thursday, May 17 at St. John’s Hospital. Roy was born on January 5, 1918 in Chatham, the son of Ray and Golden (Thomas) Vaughn. Roy spent many years as a baker. He worked for Federal Bakery for many years, served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the bake shop, as well as working for Fiat Allis for a while. He moved to Springfield in 1939. Roy married Betty Tobias on June 18, 1940. They shared 38 years together until she preceded him in death on November 1, 1978. Roy worked hard to preserve the historic train depot in Chatham, he loved animals especially cats and dogs, and loved working in his garden growing the biggest tomatoes. He is survived by his daughters; Glenna (Melvin)Ballard of Chatham, Donna Vaughn of Springfield, Linda Kay O’Neil of Billings, MT, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a few nieces. Visitation for Roy will be held on Sunday May 20, from 5-8 pm, at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St Springfield IL 62703. Funeral service will be on Monday, May 21, at 10 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Bob Green conducting the services. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, with the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail providing military honors.
