He was born in East St. Louis, IL, January 15, 1925 the son of William Clyde and Mary T. Yates. His parents and a brother William preceded him in death.
Bob was a graduate of Lanphier High School where he played baritone in the high school band. Bob served in the United States Navel Reserves from 1947-1952 and was a past member of the Navy Club. He was a licensed private pilot and flew out of Springfield’s old Southwest Airport. He retired after 34 years of service from the Secretary of State’s Office of the State of Illinois. Bob was instrumental in the introduction and implementation of computerized records.
Bob is survived by his niece, Leigh Anne, his nephew Steven and several friends and those that cared for him.
Visitation and Service: The Yates family will greet friends at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 10:30 am until time of services there at 11:30 am. Rev. Mary Ellen Sharp will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
