Robert Edward Shaughnessy, 84, of Springfield, died at 6:27 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Robert was born on August 19, 1928 in Springfield, the son of Robert E. and Margaret Rooney Shaughnessy. He married Marlyn Carlton on February 3, 1951 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Robert was a graduate of Kent State High School in Kent, OH in 1946. He then attended Kent State University and began working as a plasterer for 20 years. He was later employed with Interstate Brands for 20 years. He was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #4179. Robert was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Above all his greatest love was his family and his church. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marlyn of Springfield; children, Pat Shaughnessy of Port Angeles, WA, Mike (wife, Debra) Shaughnessy of San Clemente, CA, Timothy (fiance, Kit Brown) Shaughnessy of Orange County, CA, and Sean (wife, Carolyn) Shaughnessy of Needham, MA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (husband, Jeremy) Reese, Caleb Lavin, Manda Lavin, Colin (wife, Tory) Shaughnessy, Kellen (fiance, Anaeli Sandoval) Lavin, Thomas and Emily Shaughnessy; and five great-grandchildren, Jack, Charley, Kameryn, Dylan, and Mason. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Memorial Gathering & Memorial Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield with Rev. Richard Chiola, celebrant. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N.
