Robert F. Scott, 90, of Springfield, died at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at his home. Robert was born on September 10, 1915 in Rochester, the son of Maurice M. and Margaret Hegarty Scott. He married Mary K. Golden on July 26, 1947 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2002. Mr. Scott was a graduate of Springfield High School, and Springfield College in Illinois where he was a member of the Distinguished Alumni. He received his law degree from Lincoln College of Law. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service as Special Agent, Counter-Intelligence. He also received three Bronze Stars for serving in campaigns: India Burma, China Defensive and China Offensive. He also received the Asiatic – Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Three Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. He was an Attorney-At-Law practicing in Springfield, Sangamon County, and other surrounding counties in Illinois for more than fifty years, beginning in 1947. He was a founder of several law firms and enjoyed association with many central Illinois attorneys and judges. He served as a Commissioner of the Springfield Election Commission. He was a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was a founding member of Christ the King Catholic Church and president of the Holy Name Society. He was also president of Springfield Noon Lions Club, member of the Illinois State Bar and Sangamon County Bar Associations and Knights of Columbus Council 364 and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Bishop Griffin Assembly. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas E. and Maurice W. Scott. Robert is survived by three sons: R. Stephen (wife, Lynn Francis) Scott, Gregory A. (wife, Lucinda) Scott both of Springfield, Michael B. (wife, Tamara L.) Scott of Lake Worth, FL; three daughters: Joan M. (husband, Bruce) Beeman, M. Sharon (husband, Peter) Sander both of Springfield and Maureen A. (husband, Mark V.) Timmermann of Belleville; seventeen grandchildren; one great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr. Springfield with Msgr. David S. Lantz, principal celebrant and Rev. Donald Meehling, concelebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Macon County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
